Foreign Minister: The international community must continue supporting UNRWA to enable it to fulfill its humanitarian mission towards Palestinian refugees
A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Hussein met today, Monday, with the Acting Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Christian Saunders, on the sidelines of the 166th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held in Cairo.
During the meeting, they discussed the difficult humanitarian situation facing the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, as well as the political and financial challenges facing UNRWA under the current circumstances. The two sides, according to the statement, emphasized the importance of UNRWA continuing its humanitarian and service-oriented work for Palestinian refugees, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and relief, given the increasing need for its services.
They also discussed the importance of concerted international efforts and urging donor countries to bridge the funding gap facing the agency, ensuring the continued provision of its essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees and preventing the reduction or cessation of its programs.
The Foreign Minister, according to the statement, affirmed the Republic of Iraq's unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, stressing the importance of the international community continuing its support for UNRWA and enabling it to continue carrying out its humanitarian mission for Palestinian refugees.
The Minister emphasized the need to intensify international efforts to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and the protection of civilians and humanitarian facilities. / End
