Trump Administration Bypasses the Congress and Approves Sale of Munitions to Israel
The department stated, "Secretary of State Marco Rubio concluded that there was an emergency situation requiring the immediate completion of the deal." This comes a week after the United States and Israel launched their attacks on Iran.
The department stated in a press release, "Israel requested to purchase 12,000 BLU-110A/B multi-purpose bombs, each weighing 1,000 pounds. The prime contractor for the deal will be the Texas-based company Rubcon."
It explained: "Rubio decided that the sale 'serves the national security interests of the United States.'"
Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks said in a statement, "Rubio's decision to use emergency powers to bypass congressional review demonstrates that the war with Iran is ill-prepared."
Meeks added in the statement, "The Trump Administration has repeatedly claimed to be fully prepared for this war. However, the rush to invoke emergency powers to circumvent Congress shows quite the opposite. This is a self-inflicted emergency."
The Trump administration has previously concluded arms sales to Israel that bypassed congressional review, as did the Biden administration when it was in power. / End
