Istanbul /NINA/ – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as various regional and international issues.

This took place during a phone call between the two leaders, according to a statement issued by the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications.

Erdoğan noted that both sides would continue working to develop relations between Turkey and the United States and to provide momentum for cooperation across all fields, coinciding with the upcoming centenary of Turkish-American relations next year.

The statement added that, during the call, President Erdoğan explained that—within the framework of mutual defense commitments—they are closely monitoring developments in the Strait of Hormuz and Yemen, and are making efforts to resolve the crisis through diplomatic means.

He also affirmed Turkey’s readiness to support efforts aimed at reviving the diplomatic process between Ukraine and Russia to bring an end to the war between them.

During the conversation, Trump congratulated Erdoğan and the Turkish people on the occasion of Republic Day, which falls on October 29th./ End
