Baghdad / NINA / - Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi met with Baligh Abu Kalal, Executive Director of the Communications and Media Commission (CMC), to discuss issues concerning the current state of the media and telecommunications sectors in Iraq.

A statement by the Commission noted that Al-Zaidi received Abu Kalal on Thursday evening. During the meeting, they addressed the challenges facing media work—specifically regarding hate speech and incitement to violence—and emphasized the importance of upholding professional and legal standards. Such adherence, they noted, contributes to safeguarding civil peace while ensuring the exercise of freedom of opinion and expression within constitutional and legal frameworks.

The discussion also covered the Commission’s role in regulating the media landscape and keeping pace with developments in digital media and social media platforms. Furthermore, they examined the state of the telecommunications sector, along with plans to enhance its services, infrastructure, and overall quality.

During the meeting, Abu Kalal outlined the Commission’s key activities and its regulatory and technical measures within the media and telecommunications sectors. He also highlighted the Commission’s operational priorities for the coming period, in light of the challenges and developments currently affecting both sectors. /End
